Fun Facts: Updates on the Kiddos

This year has started off with a busy, crazy, hectic bang! Since most of the busy-ness revolves around our children, I thought I might just fill you in on some of the things they've been up to of late.

*One thing Taylor is up to these days is 5'6". That's a three inch growth since his birthday 7 months ago. He is excelling in all school subjects--the last marking period he had 3 A+'s and 4 A's. He is anxiously awaiting a letter informing him whether or not he has made it into a special math and science program for high school next year. He had to take a test and fill out an application answering essay questions. Then if he is selected, he'll go for an interview and then finally, they'll give him a definite answer. There are only 5 slots available from Albion, so he is really anxious about it but trying not to get his hopes up. Also, he has mixed feelings about the orthodontist appointment that we have scheduled for him in two weeks. So do we, actually. If we have it figured right (and our children all end up with the teeth we think they'll have), we should be dealing with braces pretty steadily now for the next decade. Or so.

*Kendall just tried out and was cast in the play "King Arthur's Quest". He'll be playing the role of Mordred (demon son of the king). I can't actually say it without laughing yet. The play is a super funny musical comedy and he's more like the bratty son of the king rather than a wicked villain. He's so excited. The play is being produced by a traveling youth theater company from Montana so it is an intensive week-long production with two performances on Saturday. This will take the place of his usual theater performance this year. It was really fun to watch the auditions last night. The two directors are young guys in their 20's who have so much infectious energy and a lot of silly antics that draw the kids in and get them so excited and more willing to get out of their comfort zone. Kendall did a great job with the audition.

*Lynnsey is becoming a regular fashionista. I've finally decided to give up the matching battle with her and just let her put together her own outfits for school. This was a big thing for me but with everything else going on, I figure this is one thing that I can let go of. As a result, Lynnsey has been going to school in some of the most creative outfits ever--and looking SO cute! I never would have put a striped sweater with polk-a-dot tights, but I love her concoctions (most of them anyway--I did draw the line this morning when she paired her green, red and white striped Chrismas knee socks with reindeer on them with her purple and pink floral and skirt) and I'm so glad I have allowed myself to go along with it. Oh, and she's lost yet another tooth. She has quite a lisp now. Luckily her teeth grow in quickly. Crookedly, but quickly.

*Spencer is getting more and more comfortable in preschool these days. He's starting to participate more in the group activities and I am told that last week he happily did the limbo with the rest of the class. He is still coming up with his great life observations too. The other day after a dinner in which Kaya had more fun throwing her food on the floor than putting it in her tummy, Spencer warned me: "Watch out Mommy. It's a minefield through there."
*And Kaya has 5th child syndrome which means basically that most of her acitivites revolve around the other kids activities. I keep thinking one of these days that I need to take her to library storytime or the kids museum or sign up for a class or something with just the two of us, but really there just hasn't been time when we're trying to get the other kids to all of their destinations. Poor kid. She doesn't seem to mind though and loves to go anywhere as long as it's out of the house. She is talking more and more and is now beginning to put two words together. In the store today she grabbed the seat belt in the cart and told me "buckle up". (And then proceeded to spend the rest of the shopping trip twisting and turning and trying loudly to escape her restraints.) She has been going to nursery for the past couple of weeks at church and isn't a huge fan so far. She's getting better though, so hopefully she'll come to love it.
And that's at least some of the latest. I'll post pictures of Mordred (demon son of the king) after the big performance!

Wow! That is a lot of stuff everyone is up to. That was so fun to read. I have to say I cracked a smile just thinking "demon son of the king", too! That is awesome. Can't wait to see pictures.

I am almost sure Taylor will get the nod for the math/science thing. Only four slots from Albion but really...he must be the smartest kid in Albion, right? I think of him everytime I watch "The Big Bang Theory".

You should take pictures of Lynnsey's ensembles and do a "fashionista" scrapbook layout!

I loved the minefield comment. So cute. That would be great for Taylor if he got selected. Good luck to Kendall with his part. I would like to see some pictures of the fashionista ensembles. Jenna likes to throw all of her food in the floor too. It is really fun I guess because she dumps her food in the floor and then asks me for bites of mine. She is full speed into the terrible twos.
