Staring Death in the Face

I bought curtains for the girls' room yesterday. They currently have some old dusty blinds on the windows that are finally beginning to disintegrate so I decided it was time to change the window treatments. While I was in K-Mart yesterday I came accross some cute curtains that are nice and thick so they'll do the job of darkening the room that the icky old blinds were doing. But when I got them home I realized they weren't wide enough and I'd have to have more panels to make it work. So today I drove back over to K-Mart to buy more curtains.

When I arrived I exited my vehicle and walked down the line of cars toward the store. I was aware of a car in the next parking lane over pulling out and driving in the same direction, but at that point I had already begun crossing the road in front of the store. I knew the car would have to stop before turning into the road anyway. But suddenly I saw movement out of the corner of my eye and became distinctly aware that the car was not stopping. It also occured to me that I was still in crossing the road to the store entrance. I turned in time to see the car turning right into my path. I tried jumping out of the way but there wasn't time. Luckily the teenage girl driver and her teenage girl passenger locked onto my terrified eyes and registered that they needed to slam on the breaks. The car stopped literally in the nick of time. When I looked down at the bumper I saw that it was touching the fabric of my pants! The girl mouthed an apology while I clutched my pounding heart and walked unsteadily to the store. An onlooker said "Yikes! That's your heart attack for the day!" No kidding. Holy cow! That was so scary. I've been in near accidents like that before in my car but never as a pedestrian. So freaky! I wonder if the girl will tell her mom? Not likely, I imagine. But maybe she'll think next time she's behind the wheel.

I did get my curtains though, so at least there's that.

P.S. I posted some video clips of Kendall's play to my Facebook page if you want to check them out. I'm sorry to everyone who doesn't have FB. It just won't upload to this blog.

That would freak me out. I have actually hit a pedestrian in my car and that is a freaky thing in its own. I am glad you were not fully hit though!

You will have to take pictures of the curtains so that we can see them!
