King Arthur's Quest

It was quite a week for Kendall last week. After auditioning on Monday afternoon and being cast as Mordred (demon son of the king--hee, hee), he began rehearsals that same evening. Then he spent 4 hours after school every day for the rest of the week. Saturday he spent about 8 hours at school for dress rehearsal and two performances. But he loved every second of it! In spite of the exhausting schedule, he was so excited after school every day to head over to practice. The two directors were absolutely amazing and made it so much fun for the cast.
The performances were fantastic! I never would have guessed that they had pulled that together in less than a week. Everyone knew their lines and all the songs including the choreography. And Kendall stole the show. Seriously. I know, I know. I'm his mom so I have to say that. But I'm not the only one who said it. Several of the audience members told us that after the show and so did Dory, the woman who was responsible for getting the Missoula Children's Theater to come to Albion and who played Morgan le Fey in the play. Kendall did a terrific job throwing himself into the role of a bratty prince. I took several video clips and tried unsuccessfully to upload them onto this post. Maybe they were too long for blogger. I may try to put them on Facebook instead because I would love for everyone to see what I'm talking about. The play was so well-done and absolutely hilarious. Anyway, we are just so proud of Kendall for all his hard work. I think yesterday was a bit of a "day after Christmas" feeling for him because he's been living this thing for the past week and was so looking forward to the performance day. Now it's over and he's back at school for a normal, boring week at school (his words). He's already looking forward to next year's production and hoping that the Missoula folks can come back again. (On a side note, the Missoula Children's Theater is really something amazing. They've been touring around the U.S. and Canada and to many other countries as well since the 1970's. They fit their sets and costumes and everything into a little red truck and take quality children's theater to communties everywhere. I think they said they have something like 28 pairs of directors out touring right now.)
Following are some fun photos. We weren't allowed to take flash pictures during the play and so I didn't get anything other than the videos from that but these are some cute ones from the photo session after.

There were about 24 kids in the production plus two adults. (Kendall is on the far left of the picture).

Everyone doing a "Mordred" face.

This is Kendall and Dory who played Mordred's aunt Morgan.

And here he is doing his version of "innocent Mordred" with director Jon.

And a final picture with the other director Kevin who also played the roles of "Keeper of the Keep", the dragon, and the giant.
Kendall is already missing these guys. We just hope that in the hundreds of kids they work with this year that they might remember Kendall, the best Mordred ever!

Okay, that looked awesome! What an incredible experience for Kendall. I can tell just by his Napoleon dance he has a flair for acting...I would love to have seen him in action as Mordred! Hopefully we can watch some video of it next time we visit if nothing else.
