There Was Something In the Air

In my younger days I was a pretty big fan of the musical group ABBA. It seems that people either totally love them or totally hate them. But I think their songs are so catchy and fun and impossible not to dance to. But years went by and other music took their place. Then a couple of years ago I got to go and see the musical Mamma Mia while in Las Vegas and fell in love with that music all over again. When I came home I dusted off my old cassette tape (yes, cassette) and listened to all those songs over again. And again. And while I listened, some of the kids did too. Kendall especially loved it and ended up playing the tape as his cleaning his room motivater. So at Christmas this year one of the things Kendall received was an ABBA greatest hits CD. Needless to say, we've been hearing A LOT of ABBA these days and all of the kids except Taylor, (or so he says anyway) are addicted.

The past while Kaya requests it frequently and will get ahold of the CD case and pack it around with her. On Thursday, I had to make a run to Michael's to buy some extra stuff for the MOPS craft I was in charge of for Friday. By the time I had found all that I needed, Kaya was done with the whole situation and just wanted out of the cart. (I don't blame her really. All those cool things just begging for little hands to grab and she's belted securely in a cart with no way to reach them.) Finally it was our turn at the checkout and by then Kaya was leaning sideways in the cart softly whining and mumbling to herself when suddenly her eyes widened and she sat straight up and yelled "it ABBA!" Sure enough, the song playing over the store sound system was "Fernando". It hadn't even registered with me, but my one and half year old recognized it immediately. She was SO excited and sat happily listening to the music while I finished checking out.

Perhaps we will have to bring an MP3 player loaded with ABBA music for all future shopping trips. And maybe I'll even let Kaya listen to a few.

We love ABBA too! Your story is so funny. It is amazing how young they can pick up those things!

I enjoy it also from momma mia, however I saw it on DVD. I could never get them out of my head since Kayleigh would watch the movie or play the soundtrack over and over!!!

That is awesome that she calmed down for the check out time, sometimes that is the hardest time for a fussy baby!!
