Happy Happy Birthday Spencer Dear!

Something is seriously wrong with this thing called time. It's spinning out of control and nothing can fix it. Here it is causing yet another birthday to arrive! Our Spencito turned four on July 30th. This year being an even numbered birthday, he was allowed to have a friend party. So when I sat down with him to plan the guest list we had the following conversation:

Mommy: Okay buddy, who would you like to invite to your birthday?
Spencer: My cousin Bentley.
Mommy: That would be so much fun, but Bentley lives in New Jersey and he won't be able to come to a party.
Spencer: His mom and dad will bring him.
Mommy: But his mom is about to have a new baby so they'll be too busy with all of that.
Spencer: Well, his dad could leave working and drive him here.
Mommy: I don't think that will be possible.
Spencer: Well that's who I'm inviting to my party.

I tried to convince him to ask his friends from church and his playmates here, but he was insisting that Bentley was who he was having. So after consulting with Kalen we gave Spencer the option of having a little party with his cousins when we go to New Jersey next week or having a friend party here. He yelled: "Party in New Jersey!" So that's what it will be. In the meantime, we couldn't allow Spencer's actual birthday to go uncelebrated so we had a family party with just us and Nana and Uncle Timothy. Uncle Jonathan couldn't be here, but he made sure to send a card and some money.

Nana and Timothy gave Spencer a really cool Cars art set. We're hoping this will inspire Spencer to get creative. All of our kids have loved arts and crafts but Spencer has been having none of it. Preschool will be interesting...

We gave him a Moon Sand kit and a Dora video game but his very favorite present of all was a little silver car that Kendall bought for him at the dollar store. He named it Cody (he names everything Cody and we aren't exactly sure why),played with it for the rest of the night, and then had to bring it to bed with him.

With four whole candles to blow out, he had to take a giant breath...

Got 'em all! He thoroughly enjoyed his chocolately allergy-free cupcakes and soy ice cream. (Poor kid doesn't know what he's missing!)

Happy birthday to you Spencerooni! We love you so much and can't believe you are growing so big. You keep us laughing with your silly sense of humor and you keep us on our toes with your crazy mood swings (note to the world: do not even think about talking to this kid for at least a half hour after his nap!). You challenge us and empty our wallet with your multiple food allergies but it is fun to see how excited you get about eating! We love how you talk and word things. It is so much fun to overhear you playing and concocting little scripts with all your toys. You are so cute when you go about your day always humming an original tune. We love your out of control giggle and your great big "eye-popping" bear hugs. We are so glad that you are in our family cute boy! Happy birthday.
