It seems absolutely impossible to believe that it has been a year since our sweet baby girl entered the world. I don't think I've ever had a year go by as quickly as this one has. And babies are such amazing creatures when you look at how much growth occurs in just 365 days:
Amazing isn't it? We had a nice little birthday celebration for her with just our family and Mom and Timothy over for presents and cupcakes. Kaya was sick with a cold so that was really not great, but even when she's sick, she's still one of the most easy-going kids around.
Here are some of the highlights: She enjoyed the paper more than the gifts, I think. She wasn't sure what to make of the fire on top of her cupcake nor why we were giving it to her at the same time telling her not to touch it! We thought we'd get some cute photos of her smearing chocolate frosting all over her face, but surprisingly she was actually quite dainty about eating the cupcake. She thoroughly enjoyed it, but just managed to get most of it in her mouth. And the last picture is meant to show two things: 1. The cute little summer outfit that she got with the money that her Aunt Susannah sent and 2. Yes. She is walking. She had been taking a few tentative steps between furniture and/or family members but then the night before her birthday she actually started taking a dozen or so steps between various points. And now, just a few days later, she is getting around on two feet more than crawling.
She also had her one year check-up yesterday. She weighs 22 lbs. (50th percentile) and is 28 inches (25th percentile). The doctor watched her walking and pulling up and even heard her say a couple of words ("Mama" and "there") and pronounced her as exceeding the expected developmental levels. Of course, we have known what a little smarty pants she is all along, but it is nice when a medical professional confirms it.
It has been a beautiful year with a beautiful little girl. Kaya is an absolute blessing and is the cherry on top of our family sundae.

I can't believe she is a year old already! I keep thinking of her as she appears in the first few pictures, since that's how she looked when we saw her last. And now she's walking and talking! That's the hardest thing, watching how FAST they grow and change that first year. I'm already dreading it (and yet looking forward to it, too!) and this one of mine is still on the inside. They just grow up too fast. (In fact, at the rate mine is "growing up", she'll be 22 pounds before she even gets here! Or, at least it sure feels like it.

Wow, walking! I am shocked since she was just starting to crawl a few months ago! I have to say that I am with Alison on the dreading as well as looking forward to watching my baby grow!
The picture of her with the pink glasses on makes her look a little bit like Spencer! She is very cute!
The outfit is way cute as well, I am glad that I got her such a cute thing!!
She's such a cutie! I can't believe that's she's already 1! Of course, Grant is already going to be 7 months next week. How come time went by so slow when we were kids? Summer vacation seemed to last forever!
