Notes

Lynnsey is always writing these days. She writes notes for us and for her friends at school. She writes in her journal often. She writes down song lyrics from High School Musical. Sometimes she just writes random words. She always seems to have a notebook or scratch paper or paper towel or something that she is writing on. We go through a ton of paper around here. The other day we found a little notebook that she had written: "I have a boyfriend" on one page and on another page she had written: "My mom yeld at me." She refuses to talk about the boyfriend to us, but Kendall says he knows but has been sworn to secrecy. And the yelling, well, I'm sure I did. It's not pleasant to see it in cute little writing though.
Anyway, a couple of nights ago I was trying to get the kids to clean up the house before getting ready for bed. Lynnsey absolutely loathes cleaning and we struggle to get her to do anything. Sometimes it's just easier to do it ourselves. But I'm really trying to get her to be more responsible. So I called her in to talk to her about it and explained very calmly why she needed to pull her weight around here and how I can have more time to spend with her if I don't have to clean up after her constantly. She listened intently, said okay, and then went into the other room where I thought she was cleaning. After a few minutes she came back and handed me a note:
I can't cleen. it is too Hrd. I riLee riLee riLee riLee DOT No hao to cleen. rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
I thought it was so cute I almost let her off the hook. But I didn't. I ended up pretending to be her kindergarten teacher and she pretended she was cleaning at school. Whatever works I guess.

Figures they are willing to clean for their teachers but not for their moms.

I LOOOVE the phonetic spelling when kids are first learning to write. (Actually, Isabel still does a lot of the phonetic spelling in her free-writing, even though when pressed, she knows how to actually spell the words. Not sure what that is about).

A boyfriend huh!? Very interesting!

My Brooky is a note writer too. It is very funny - mostly when the note is her trying to be serious. I like the idea to get them to clean...You are so creative!

I thought that is cute that she wrote you a note. I have been given a note before about things from Ashley and I have to say with or without the spelling being correct, at her age it just isn't as cute!! At least you got her to do some cleaning even if you had to turn it into a game. The writing may be her calling in life and she might become a famous author!! Good luck to her and hopefully she keeps it up if it is something that she enjoys. I encourage things of enjoyment!!

I wish Janina and Lynnsey could know each other. I think they would be instant friends. Everything you ever write about her reminds me of my own daughter. (you should just be glad she's not writing her notes on the wall -- that's Nina's favorite platform...)
