Fall Fun

Fall in Michigan is very beautiful. I love the brilliant colors and crunching leaves under foot. I love apple cider and pumpkins and Halloween. But fall is not my favorite season for several reasons, the biggest of which is that after autumn comes winter! Every week at soccer games we get colder and colder where in the spring we may have few chilly games but they progressively get warmer and warmer. Another thing that we dislike about fall is that we end up with at least 20 tons of leaves carpeting our lawn that we have to rake up. Luckily I've escaped that chore this year because we've had two boys that were wanting to earn a little cash. Anyway, after one of the biggest raking sessions of the season we went out and took a few photos of the kids. This pile was a little deeper than it looked so you can barely see Kaya sitting in the middle of it.
Once we got her to stand up in the pile it worked out better.

Poor little Spencer had spent the week holed up inside with a terrible case of the flu. He stood at the window watching all the kids playing in the leaves. When I went back inside he was very sad that he didn't get a picture in the leaf pile either. So we brought him out for a turn.

He's really trying hard to look "not sick" in this picture. He was opening his eyes wider than I had seen in days so that I would think he was just fine. But shortly after the picture was taken he asked to go back in to the couch. Poor kid. (This flu is a complete nightmare!)

Oh, poor little guy! He really does look sick in that picture, for all he's trying hard to look well.

Probably the H1N1?

That is so sad! Its no fun being sick watching everyone else have fun. The picture of him looking out the window is a heartbreaker.

There are so many flu cases here that they aren't testing which kind anymore and don't even want to see the kids unless they have complications from it, but they did tell me that one tell-tale sign of the H1N1 virus is that you'll think they are getting better after a few days and then their fever spikes high again and it seems to start all over. That happened with Spencer and all the other signs were there so we're thinking that's what it was. Which means Lynnsey's was most likely the same thing. It really was awful but now both kids are back in school and except for a lingering cough, which we were told can stick around for up to 3 weeks after the other symptoms are gone, both kids are doing well.

We have some leaves here but I have found that the wind blows strong and takes them away! That is my kind of raking!!!

I am glad that they are feeling better and hope that no one else comes down with the flu!

What a trooper, trying to look not sick for the picture. So sad. I hope all is well now?
